Introduction to Operating System: Operating System is a system software which is also known as OS. Operating system is an interface between the user and the computer system. 

Other software programs and hardware are operated by the operating system. Program can't run without the operating system. It is only program running on the computer, other being application programs.

Main Features  of Window Operating System

Graphical User Interface(GUI): GUI is User friendly interface. GUI is a type of user interface that display graphic icons, menus, objects, visual inductor to users through computer equipment.

Multi-user System: Multi- user operating system means more than one users can use one computer.

Single user operating system:  Single user OS means which only one user can operate at a time. Through, single user OS, only one user can complete his work at a time. For eg. DOS, Windows 95,97,98, Windows 3x.

Multitasking: Multi tasking simple means excutes more than one program at a time.

Single user runs multiple programs at a time.

Multi Processing: Multiple processors means multiple processor in a single system. In multiprocessing operating system more than one process can run on different CPU at the same time. 

Multi-Threading: The Multithreading allows you to execute different threads at the same time.

Real Time Operating System: Real time operating system is also called RTOS. RTOS is an operating system used to handle real time applications. It is very fast. RTOS used in Rocket Launcher and ATM machine.

eg. of RTOS:  MTS, LYNX, QNX 

There are three types of RTOS : 

1. Hard RTOS
2. Soft RTOS
3. Firm RTOS
