Introduction To Computer System

Introduction to computer system A computer and all its hardware & software component are computer system. Definition of computer system: A computer system is defined as a digital electronic machine that can programmed to perform some operations as per the computer program instructions. The computer system components are: Input device CPU(Central Processing Unit) System Memory Output device Concept of hardware and software:           Hardware component are physical Component that we can touch. eg. hard disk, RAM, keyboard, mouse, monitor etc.,           Software component are set of instruction that used for operations. it is opposite of hardware. we can't touch the software components. eg. operating system, complier, MS word, MS excel, interpreter etc. Official ITI COPA Trade syllabus in pdf : click on this link :  copa syllabus.pdf - Google Drive

Functions

Functions of data stored in computer Bit: Bit means binary digit.  A bit represents the smallest unit of data that a computer can handle.  Bit can either 0 or 1. Byte: A group of 8 bits called a byte that represents a single character, which can be a letter, a number or another symbol. bits in a byte are represents from 0 to 7 . 8 bits can represents 256 different binary combination (8 power of 2 =256).    -128 to +127 Field:  A field is made up of bytes. A Combination of one or more characters is called field. It is the smallest unit of data that can be accessed by the user. eg. - RollNo, StudentName, Address etc. Record:    A collection of related fields and each field containing only one value. record is a group of interrelated fields, as a student's name, the course, addresses etc. File: The Collection of related records that a file. File is also known as a data set. A student file may contain the records of hundreds student.  ...

Computer input and output device

Computer input and output device Input device: The data is given to computer is called input device. A hardware component used to enter the data & instruction into the computer is called input device. input devices are: Keyboard, mouse, microphone, webcam, trackballs, light pen, joystick, scanner Keyboard: A keyboard is an input device, that user a set off finger sized buttons called keys to enter or manipulate data on a computer. The keyboard looks like the typewriter. Keys in keyboard: Alphanumeric keys, control keys function keys, navigation keys, numeric keys Mouse: A mouse is a pointing device that allows you to control the movement of the insertion point on the screen. A mouse is hand held pointing device that detects two dimensional motion relative to a surface, which provides traction for the rolling ball inside the device. A mouse usually has two buttons: a primary button(left button) and secondary button(right button) & scrollbar. Microphone: It is define as ...

Classification of Computer

Classification of Computers Computer can be classified into four categories based on their size and type- Micro Computer Mini Computer Mainframe Computer Super Computer Microcomputer:   Micro computers are small, low-cost and single-user computer. It has a micro-processor as its Central processing unit. They are smaller in size as compared to mainframe and mini computer. micro computer include Desktop Computers, Notebook Computers, Laptop, Tablet, Handheld Computer, Calculators, Mobile phones etc. Mini Computer: Mini Computer Generally used in multi- user Computer. They have high processing speed and high storage capacity than microcomputer. Minicomputer capable of supporting up to hundreds of users simultaneously. eg. IBM's AS/400e, TI-990, Honeywell200 etc. Mainframe Computer: Mainframe Computer are powerful multi-user, multiprogramming and high speed  computer. Mainframe computer capable of supporting many hundreds or thousands of user simultaneously. Nowadays a m...

Generation of computer

Generation of Computer   First Generation of Computer (1940-1956) The first computers used vacuum tubes for circuitry and magnetic drums. Punch card & Paper tape was secondary storage. limited internal storage capacity & slow input/output operations.  It is not portable. Consume lot of electricity. The UNIVAC and ENIAC computers are examples of  Ist generation computing device. Some Computer of this generation were: ENIAC, EDVAC, UNIVAC, IBM-701, IBM-650 Second Generation of Computer(1956-1963) The Second Generation computer replacement of vacuum tubes by transistors .  Tapes and magnetic disk was used for Secondary Storage. High-level procedural languages  COBOL & FORTRAN. Smaller, Faster, cheaper and less heavy on electricity use than first generation Computer. Magnetic core was use for primary storage. Some Computer  of this generation: IBM1620, IBM7094, CDC1604, CDC3600, UNIVAC1108. Third Generation (1964-1971) The Third Generation of comp...

Fundamentals of Computers

History of Computers   What is Computer? A computer is an electronic device that store, retrieves, and process the data.                               "Computer", as a word can be considered to have originated a few decades back, but the original references to its work or generations can be dated back to the history. There have been several machines in the past that are considered to have evolved into the modern day computers. Let us study about various great inventions that lead to the evolution of computers. Abacus:             The history of computer begins that the birth of abacus which is believed to be the first computer, it is said that Chinese invented Abacus around 4,000 years ago.             It was a wooden rack which has metal rods with beads mounted on them. The beads were moved by the abacus operator according to some rules to pe...
